warung enak signboard

As a rule of thumb, any eatery that calls itself ‘delicious’ (enak means delicious in Indonesian) ought to be viewed with scepticism. Do the proprietors have nothing else to say about their food and business other than “come in, the food is good”? And shouldn’t customers be the rightful judge to a particular restaurant’s food quality?
Warung Enak, however, proved to be an exception to this rule. We are not sure why they simply named the place ‘enak’, but we agree that the food quality there – those that were sampled …

sacred monkey forest sanctuary ubud

The majestic looking monkey forest
“Monkeys. A whole forest of them!”, someone exclaimed.
Sure, what else would one expect from a place called the monkey forest? While it is impossible to ignore the monkeys, believe it or not, this place has much more to offer than plain monkey sightings.

The palace, which is also within walking distance to Ubud market and many of the nearby shops, is a good place to visit if you are interested in the traditional Balinese home design and architecture.
Not having a guide with us, we toured the palace ground on our own. Most visitors spent only a short period of time here, and …

Kou Cuisine Ubud

If you are looking for some local Balinese food produce to be brought back home as a souvenir, consider dropping by Kou Cuisine at Jalan Monkey Forest. This store offers a selection of hand made jams, as well as other local specialties like honey, and herb infused sea salt from the Balinese village of Kusamba. Widespread usage of local fruits in their products resulted in some very interesting combinations, such as the strawberry & banana jam, as well as pineapple & guava jam.
