Asian African Conference Commemoration 2015

Indonesia is hosting the 60th anniversary celebration of the Asian African Conference this week, with over 3,600 delegates and guests from 109 invited countries, including 34 head of states and head of governments, expected to flock to host cities Jakarta and Bandung. A series of key events are scheduled to run between 19 and 24April 2015, ending with a historical walk by country leaders to commemorate the original 1955 conference in Bandung. Amongst those expected to attend are Chinese President Xi Jinping, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and Jordanian King Abdullah II.

This year’s event carries the theme “Strengthening South-South Cooperation to Promote World Peace and Prosperity” and according to its official website the conference is aimed to “bridge Asian and African nations to stronger partnership and to share experiences in enhancing both regions’ economic development”.
