19 April 2010 No Comment

The closure of airspace for commercial flights in many part of Europe continues  for a fourth day. Eurocontrol, the European air traffic control and safety agency, predicts that 30 percent of total number of flights will take place in European airspace on Monday (19/04). This figure is slightly better than the past two day results, where there were less than 30 percent of total flights. Eurocontrol said that they expected that “more than 63,000 flights in total have been cancelled”.

The airline industry is beginning to calculate the economic damage from flight cancellations, which the International Air Transport Association (IATA) estimates to be at least US$200 million a day.
